They’re designed to loosen packed soil and they can be used to create the perfect soil for vegetables and flower bed borders. Cultivators are really cheap, especially if you opt for a hand model, and most now benefit from comfortable gel grips.

A greenhouse or shed is not complete without a cultivator hanging on the wall, and every enthusiastic gardener will need to use this tool at some stage or another. Most of these will be fitted with stainless steel heads, and you’re safe with these models as they will not rust over time. You can buy large cultivators but the hand models are perfect for small areas.

You may need a long handle model if you’re going to be working on a large area for long hours, while a raised cultivator will be perfect for deep, dense soil.
